The Purpose and Motivations for learning Korean

Here are your answers!

Thank you all! for responding to my questions in the update post below, I have accumulated all the responses and condensed them to see what were most common reasons/motivations/purpose for learning Korean: :)

  1. Korean people / friends / lover / neighbour (12 responses)
  2. Korean dramas (10 responses)
  3. K-Pop (9 responses)
  4. Korean culture / customs / history (7 responses)
  5. Korean language / grammar (2 reponses)
  6. Korean food (2 responses)
  7. Politeness / respect (2 responses)
  8. Korean shows (2 responses)
  9. Lifestyle (1 response)
  10. Ideas (1 response)
  11. Technology (1 response)
So the top motivaton for learning Korean is "people"!
Closely followed by K-dramas and K-pop!

It is not surprising to see that the reason for learning a new language comes from a desire to communicate and connect with other people, and to understand them, and their way of life.

I think the languages are cool, in that once you get to learn them, you understand something you couldn't understand before, and it's such a wonderful feeling. Plus there's a definite progress there so the more you work on it, the more you learn and understand.

Anyways, thank you for your responses!
I think I'll probably work on my grammar blog again soon.

It's been such a long time since I posted any lessons but I'll see what I can do to improve this blog, and help you get to the level you want to reach.

And I'll consider these responses and may integrate them in my future posts somehow.
In the meantime, all the best with your learning Korean! :)

Luke

  1. I've just finished going through all your entries and had quite a lot of fun at that.
I'll be looking forward to your new entries but you don't need to feel under pressure with posting new entries because i (others probably as well) understand that it takes time, especially if you need to balance it with other parts of you life. I might start learning from other sources or expand my vocabulary but i'll always come here to check if there are any new entries.
Thank you again for all your hard work.

  2. It's really a great blog. Interesting and useful.

Btw, have you ever try to post about Korean song and its translation? I think it would be fun if you translate a Korean song word by word.

    Keep blogging, friend :)

As I have more spare time at the moment, I think I could put up more entries, though I'll have to see about it.
I'm thinking about how I can best serve to help you learn Korean. :)
